Mental Health Awareness

Our agency implements Mental Health First Aid for youth, adults, and veterans. Empower Somerset applies evidence-based strategies to address the mental health and wellness of today’s youth, adults, and families. We aim to increase awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues and prevent suicide deaths.

We offer Mental Health First Aid, Lifelines: Suicide Prevention Program, and the Question, Persuade, Refer in a variety of settings to help save lives. Our ultimate aim is to achieve zero suicide fatalities.

“Knowing that it is okay to realize when something is too big for me to handle and to ask for help from appropriate sources.”
“Learning the five steps of providing youth mental health first aid. It will help me to act quickly and accurately if/when encountering a young person in need.”
“I think that it’s a great step towards sharing mental health information and encouraging people to help.”
“This was a great course. I wish I knew all of this before now.”
“All of the information is so necessary coming out of a year of isolation with the pandemic.”
“The presenters allowed us to speak freely without judgment.”
“The information obtained was very interesting and relevant to current events.”
“Learning to distinguish between normal youth/teen behavior and the warning signs/symptoms of a mental health crisis was the most helpful part of this course. The ALGEE method is helpful as I raise my children and encounter their friends.”
“Talking things over with the instructor, and my peers in an open forum. This was super helpful.” “I like that the course continuously reminds the participant that it isn’t their responsibility to diagnose the youth.”
