Veterans are a group near and dear to our hearts that have a shared life experience. EmPoWER Somerset offers evidence-based, interactive health and wellness education programs that are tailored to Veterans and the unique risk factors that they face, with the goal of helping them to live their best lives, manage stress, and form positive connections with their social support networks.

Achieving Personal Balance

Achieving Personal Balance (APB) teaches Veterans behavioral, social, and cognitive coping strategies to address stressful situations at home, work, and interpersonal relationships through a combination of brief presentations, small and large group discussions, and experiential exercises. APB covers topics such as, healthy coping strategies vs. unhealthy coping strategies, positive self-talk, social support, healthy eating and exercise, and substance use and abuse.

Chronic Disease Self-Management

Chronic Self Disease Management (CDSMP) is an effective self-management education workshop for Veterans with chronic health problems which utilizes a variety of strategies for managing chronic conditions such as, healthy eating, exercise and physical activity, self-advocacy, becoming partners with your healthcare providers in managing the condition, medication management, managing emotions, and action planning. EmPoWER Somerset offers CDSMP, which covers a variety of chronic diseases, as well as more specialized chronic disease programs, including Diabetes Self-Management, Thriving and Surviving with Cancer, and Chronic Pain Management. In addition to veterans, these programs are also offered for other adults living with these chronic health conditions.

FPU

Financial Peace University

Financial Peace University (FPU) helps adults take control of their money through instructional videos, group discussions, and budgeting tools. Adults learn how to save an emergency fund, get out of debt, save for retirement and college, pay off a house, build wealth, and give generously.
